Online scams exploiting Ministry of External Affairs debunked

The Ministry of External Affairs has taken a stand against a surge of online scams that misuse its name to lure victims. Fraudsters have been posting paid‑advice offers, claiming they can guide users on trade, migration or other diplomatic matters on behalf of the MEA.

In a formal statement, the ministry emphasized that none of the alleged consultants are recognized or authorized by the department. Citizens are urged to verify the source of any such solicitation before responding.

Similar misinformation surfaced recently when an unverified claim suggested that China had demanded a ransom from India’s ambassador over a meme. The ministry’s fact‑check unit dismissed the story as fictitious.
