At a pivotal OIC gathering in Jeddah, Bangladesh’s top diplomat delivered a scathing rebuke of Israel’s new measures to seize Palestinian land. Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman, addressing the emergency executive committee, labeled the law an illegal bid to swallow occupied territories in the West Bank. He passionately advocated for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and reiterated support for a sovereign Palestine.
The controversial Israeli policy eases property acquisitions and exposes registries publicly, tactics Dr. Rahman said are designed to harass and displace Palestinian owners. ‘These moves flagrantly breach international norms and threaten the demographic integrity of holy sites like Al-Quds,’ he declared.
Insisting on the 1967 borders for a two-state resolution, Dr. Rahman dismissed the law as a direct assault on lasting peace. He demanded safeguards for Palestinian property rights and safe corridors for aid to reach Gaza’s suffering civilians without obstruction.
On a positive note, amid Ramadan felicitations from PM Tarique Rahman, the minister expressed optimism about joint efforts with OIC nations under Bangladesh’s fresh democratic mandate. Bilateral meetings with foreign ministers from Pakistan’s Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Gambia’s Sering Modou Njie, Palestine’s Dr. Warsen Ohanes Vartan Agabekian, Turkey’s Ambassador Musa Kulaklikaya, and Saudi Arabia’s Waleed A. El-Khereji underscored regional solidarity.
This condemnation highlights Bangladesh’s proactive role in global advocacy for Palestine, amplifying calls for de-escalation and equity in the protracted strife.
