NSW Announces Permanent Armed Command Following 2025 Terror Strike
In a landmark security announcement, the New South Wales government confirmed that the Armed Response Command will become a permanent fixture of the state police. The unit, formed in the aftermath of the Bondi Beach massacre, will have a dedicated operations centre and a fleet of 24 custom‑built armored vehicles. Its officers are trained to respond instantly to incidents at places of worship, large concerts and other crowded venues.
Premier Chris Minns, along with Police Minister Yasmine Catley and Police Commissioner Mall Laney, emphasized that the ARC’s rapid‑deployment capability is essential to protecting citizens from extremist violence. The announcement also referenced the ongoing court case against Navid Akram, accused of 59 offences linked to the 2025 attack.
