Fact Check: No US Warship Struck by Iran, CENTCOM Confirms

In a Wednesday briefing, the U.S. Central Command refuted Tehran’s claim that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps successfully hit two U.S. destroyers in the Middle East. The command used its official X channel to label the IRGC’s statement as entirely false.

CENTCOM clarified that none of the U.S. Navy’s combat ships have been damaged and that every IRGC assault reported so far has been thwarted. The statement also cited recent U.S. operations that have destroyed ten Iranian oil tankers, describing them as components of a shadow network funneling funds to the IRGC, a network that Iran is incapable of defending.

Iranian media had earlier announced that its forces had engaged two American warships, eight oil tankers and ten other vessels attempting to cross the disputed Hormuz Strait, calling the action a retaliation for a recent “aggressive” U.S. campaign against five Iranian tankers. CENTCOM’s briefing insists that the United States has not experienced any such attacks.
