Nine Suspected Drug Smugglers Detained as Afghan Police Confiscate 241kg

Afghan police in Badakhshan province announced on July 17 that they have confiscated 241 kilograms of illegal narcotics during coordinated raids in Pul‑e‑Begam and Tashkan. The seizures came from a vehicle and a residential property, and nine suspected traffickers were arrested on the spot. The detainees are currently being interrogated by investigators.

This action is part of a broader anti‑narcotics drive that saw security forces in Nimroz province seize dozens of kilograms of opium, methamphetamine and precursor chemicals a day earlier, leading to seven arrests. The same week, officials publicly destroyed 730 kg of opium seized in Badakhshan. Earlier operations in Takhar and Ghor provinces also yielded significant drug busts and arrests, reflecting a sustained crackdown on Afghanistan's drug networks.
