New Zealand Commits $20 Billion Investment in India Under Upcoming FTA

As part of the India‑New Zealand free‑trade agreement, New Zealand has pledged to channel US$20 billion of investment into India over the next 15 years. The commitment covers a wide array of sectors, including renewable energy, information technology, agribusiness and advanced manufacturing.

The investment pledge is tied to the trade‑boosting measures of the FTA, which will grant New Zealand firms preferential access to Indian markets on about 70 percent of tariff lines. Immediate duty‑free entry will be granted for products such as timber, wool, sheep meat and raw hides, facilitating smoother supply‑chain integration.

Both governments view the capital inflow as a catalyst for job creation and technology transfer, reinforcing the strategic partnership that aims to double bilateral trade by 2030. The investment plan is expected to be rolled out in phases, aligning with the gradual tariff reductions stipulated in the agreement.
