New AI Governance Talks in Geneva to Feature India’s Top Foreign Minister

The United Nations headquarters in Geneva will host a landmark AI governance summit on 6‑7 July, and India’s Kirti Vardhan Singh, Minister of State for External Affairs, is set to play a leading role.

Singh’s delegation will join representatives from more than 50 countries in a series of sessions covering AI’s social and economic impact, the mitigation of AI‑related inequalities, safety standards and human‑rights considerations.

The summit builds on the Global Digital Compact, emphasizing a multistakeholder approach that includes governments, private sector actors and academia. A dedicated International Scientific Panel on AI will unveil its first comprehensive risk‑benefit analysis, aimed at guiding policy makers worldwide.

India’s stance, as conveyed by the Ministry of External Affairs, stresses that AI development must keep humanity at the centre, ensuring that technology serves inclusive growth and sustainable development goals.

UNGA President Elena Bărbulescu has named co‑chairs from El Salvador and Estonia, and announced that the dialogue’s second session will convene in New York in May 2027.
