Netanyahu Says Israel Will Not Accept Turkish Expansion Near Its Borders

Jerusalem, August 20 – In a brief address posted on his party’s social media channel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that any Turkish military build‑up in Syria that endangers Israel will be met with decisive action.

He referred to the air strike on the Abu al‑Duhur airfield as a concrete example of Israel’s willingness to act when it perceives a direct threat. Netanyahu said the message had been “clearly delivered” but implied that Turkey had not fully grasped its seriousness.

The Israeli prime minister’s statements come as tension mounts between Jerusalem and Ankara over Syrian territory where Turkish troops have been stationed with Damascus’s consent. Both sides continue to accuse each other of violating sovereignty and threatening regional stability.

Following the strike, Israeli chief of staff Yoav Gallant toured the southern front, meeting with senior commanders and Israeli forces operating in a designated security zone.
