Seven‑decade tradition sees Nepal’s President confer honorary rank on Indian army chief

Kathmandu – In a ceremony scheduled for Monday, President Ramcharan Paudel will award General Dhairaj Seth, the newly appointed Chief of the Indian Army, an honorary rank in the Nepali Army. The custom, first observed in 1950, involves reciprocal bestowal of honorary titles whenever a new army chief assumes office.

The event comes as General Seth prepares for high‑level discussions with Nepali Army Chief General Ashok Raj Sigdel. Both leaders are expected to review existing defence collaborations and explore new avenues for cooperation, reinforcing the enduring security partnership between India and Nepal.
