Both Nations Commit to Mitigating Climate Risks

Kathmandu – Following the September 3 meeting, Nepal and China reaffirmed their dedication to tackling the growing risk of climate‑induced disasters. Minister Khanal thanked China for its multifaceted rescue assistance after a severe landslide, describing the aid as “selfless” and vital for saving lives.

The Chinese envoy highlighted that China has already deployed rescue teams, medical supplies, and technical expertise to support Nepal’s emergency response. He expressed confidence that joint efforts will enable both populations to overcome future hazards.

Khanal reiterated that Nepal does not intend to demand any form of climate reparations from China or other nations. Instead, the country will seek equitable climate finance through established UN channels, ensuring that funds support resilience‑building projects across the mountainous terrain.

The two sides concluded the dialogue by promising regular exchanges on disaster risk reduction, climate monitoring, and sustainable development, aiming to turn shared challenges into collaborative opportunities.
