Multidisciplinary Study Collects DNA Samples of Fish and Crustaceans Near Taiwan
A joint scientific effort led by the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences gathered extensive biological and genetic material from the eastern sea area surrounding Taiwan. Researchers used a combination of trawl nets, plankton grabs, and eDNA filtration to secure samples of fishes, squids, and crustaceans. The environmental DNA collected provides a molecular snapshot of species present, offering insights that traditional surveys might miss. Complementary acoustic surveys mapped fish school locations, while sea‑state observations recorded temperature, salinity, and currents. This integrated approach delivers a comprehensive picture of the marine resource status, laying groundwork for future conservation measures and the responsible growth of marine aquaculture.
