Coalition Partner MQM-P Warns of Sindh Uprising If Deal Not Implemented

Karachi, July 4 – Farooq Sattar, a senior MQM‑P leader, issued an unequivocal threat to the Shahbaz Sharif cabinet on Thursday. Citing the unmet 18‑point power‑sharing and resource‑allocation agreement of 2022, Sattar announced that MQM‑P would initiate a province‑wide uprising in Sindh if the federal government does not honour its commitments.

The pact, negotiated before the formation of the present government, covered reforms in municipal administration, the introduction of a quota‑free recruitment system, and a transparent division of financial resources among provinces. MQM‑P alleges that none of these provisions have been enacted, fueling growing dissatisfaction among Sindh’s populace.

Describing the statement as a "final warning," Sattar clarified that the party does not aim to expand its share of provincial ministries or increase its political clout; it simply wants the promised reforms to be executed. He reminded the audience that Shahbaz Sharif had personally guaranteed the agreement, placing direct responsibility on the centre.

The MQM‑P also invoked article 149 of the constitution, demanding either federal intervention or a nationwide referendum to resolve the stalemate. The party reiterated its call for ending the bogus domicile system and abolishing the quota‑based allocation of government jobs.

The open confrontation by an allied party could expose deep‑seated rifts within the ruling coalition and test the Shahbaz government’s capacity to maintain a united front.
