Details of the Mourning Process for Iran’s Late Supreme Leader

Iran’s mourning schedule for the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei spans several days and multiple cities. The tribute began on Friday morning at the Imam Khomeini Mosalla, where Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf, and Judiciary Chief Gholam Hossein Mohseni‑Ejei oversaw the proceedings. Internationally, heads of state and senior ministers from Pakistan, Armenia, Georgia, Iraq, Tajikistan, China and Russia arrived to offer condolences. Religious personalities, scholars, and tribal representatives also joined the gathering. Funeral processions are set for July 6 in Tehran, July 7 in Qom, and July 9 in Mashhad, with parallel ceremonies planned in Iraq. The Iranian government has announced public holidays, halted commercial flights over Tehran and Mashhad, and designated Thursday as a day of national sorrow. The late leader was killed in a U.S.–Israeli attack on February 28, and his son Mojtaba Khamenei was later named the new Supreme Leader.
