Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s landmark visit to Israel underscores a relationship built on mutual respect and strategic synergy. Speaking exclusively to IANS, Yigal Revach, Israel’s Consul General in Mumbai, revealed ongoing momentum toward a free trade agreement between the two nations.
The personal chemistry between Modi and Netanyahu, forged during Modi’s 2006 visit to Israel as Gujarat’s leader, has been a driving force. Revach described the recent trip as a resounding success, with Israelis from all walks—from Knesset members to the media—praising Modi’s leadership and India’s solidarity over the past two and a half years.
Receiving Israel’s top honor was a testament to Modi’s impact. ‘It’s the Knesset’s highest accolade, honoring his transformative work for India and the bilateral partnership,’ Revach affirmed.
On defense fronts, both countries, ancient civilizations in turbulent neighborhoods, collaborate closely against terrorism. Modi’s outspoken support post-October 7 resonated deeply, matched by Israel’s backing of India. Future joint ventures include long-range strike systems critical for regional security.
The partnership extends to high-tech realms like space exploration, renewable energy, cybersecurity, education, AI innovations, financial technologies, quantum computing, biotech advancements, and semiconductor manufacturing. Co-development initiatives are key, alongside pushes for a comprehensive free trade deal.
Revach called the visit timely and essential—Modi’s second as PM and third overall—highlighting the exceptional warmth it received. Israel sees India as an emerging superpower and vibrant democracy, with the Modi-Netanyahu duo exemplifying this special alliance.
