Modi inaugurates ancient Prambanan temple restoration in Yogyakarta

Prime Minister Modi visited the UNESCO‑listed Prambanan temple complex in Yogyakarta, a sprawling 12th‑century Hindu site, to witness the unveiling of a major restoration project. Accompanied by President Subianto, Modi performed traditional worship rituals before the newly refurbished shrines of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva.

In his address, Modi spoke of his personal connection to Hindu pilgrimages, recalling his upbringing in Vadnagar and visits to revered shrines such as Somnath and Kashi Vishwanath. He linked the restoration of Prambanan to similar projects in India, including the rebuilding of Kedarnath and the renovation of the Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain, describing it as a fortunate convergence of cultural heritage preservation.
