Modi’s Auckland Arrival Highlights Enduring India‑New Zealand Friendship

Prime Minister Narendra Modi touched down in Auckland on July 10, marking the first official visit by an Indian head of government to New Zealand in four decades. The prime minister used X to laud the Indian community’s hospitality, saying their affection reminded him of home and reflected the unwavering link that ties expatriates to India.

New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon met Modi at the airport, offering a warm hug and flanked by High Commissioner Muangpui Saiwabi and other officials. Luxon posted a video of the reception on X, extending a formal invitation to further deepen cooperation.

Modi described the trip as “historic” and indicated that he would soon sit down with Luxor to discuss bilateral cooperation across sectors such as trade, education, and tourism. He also announced a community program scheduled for Saturday, where he will address the Indian diaspora and celebrate their contributions to New Zealand society.

The city’s iconic Sky Tower lit up in special colors, a symbolic gesture praised by the Ministry of External Affairs as a testament to the strong and friendly relationship between the two nations.
