Ministerial Talks Set Stage for Balanced China‑EU Economic Ties

China’s Commerce Minister Wang Wentao and EU Trade and Economic Security Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič met in Brussels on June 29, marking the launch of the China‑EU Trade and Investment Advisory Mechanism.

The joint statement issued after the meeting highlighted that the mechanism will foster regular minister‑level dialogues to strengthen policies on trade and investment, thereby stabilising and balancing the bilateral relationship. Both sides affirmed the need for practical solutions to the challenges confronting their economic partnership.

Four thematic modules were agreed upon: trade‑investment balance, export control coordination, intellectual‑property protection, and reforms within the World Trade Organization. The officials also set a timeline to hold another ministerial session in the autumn of 2026.
