Mid‑Nigeria community hit by nocturnal attack, fatalities climb to 30

A night‑long assault by a group of gunmen on the Binpar settlement in Plateau’s Mangu Local Government Area left an estimated 30 people dead and many more wounded.

Survivor Daniel Musa recounted that the attackers moved from house to house, breaking doors open and shooting sleeping occupants. Resident Joys Pama reported that about thirty bodies were retrieved before families could start burial procedures.

Local media noted that several individuals remain missing while community leaders continue to verify the death toll. No faction has claimed responsibility for the killings.

Plateau occupies Nigeria’s middle belt, a geographic bridge between the largely Muslim north and the predominantly Christian south, and it has been plagued by recurrent violence over land and other resources.

A week earlier, a deadly encounter in Kebbi state between security forces and alleged bandits resulted in 29 casualties, including ten police officers. Motorbike‑mounted gunmen were intercepted in the Rafin Makuku locality, and their motorcycles were rendered inoperable.

Nigeria’s security landscape remains volatile, with threats ranging from terrorist attacks and kidnappings to banditry, armed communal strife, and the spread of small arms among farmers and herders.
