Melania Trump's Push to Reunite Children Split by Conflict

Washington, October 23: US President Donald Trump has praised the humanitarian work of First Lady Melania Trump, who is working to reunite children separated from their families during the Russia-Ukraine conflict. According to the President, both Moscow and Kyiv are working with her.

Trump made the remarks on Friday before boarding a flight to an election rally in Florida. He welcomed a ceasefire, calling it genuinely positive news, and said the First Lady's priority was returning children to their families.

The President was asked whether Melania Trump would join proposed trilateral peace talks among the United States, Russia and Ukraine. He did not rule it out, but he noted that no arrangements had been made for her to do so.

According to Trump, the First Lady's immediate aim is humanitarian rather than formal diplomacy. He said she wanted to rescue children, adding that both parties were supporting her in this goal.

Trump attributed the launch of the initiative and the establishment of contacts with the parties involved to his wife. "It was her initiative, she reached out to both sides, and both sides wanted to do it," he said.

During the discussion, he once again highlighted the First Lady's work, describing it as a meaningful effort to support families hit by the fighting. He said she wanted the children to go back to their families and framed the matter as one between Russia and Ukraine.

The President also said he had played a part in arranging a ceasefire in a particularly difficult area.

His remarks suggest the First Lady's involvement is focused on family reunification rather than on a formal role in the broader peace process. The conflict has divided families and displaced children, making their return a humanitarian priority that runs alongside wider diplomatic efforts to end the fighting.

Trump said the First Lady's outreach includes communication with both sides.
