Medvedev Links Strait of Hormuz Importance to Iran’s Nuclear Strategy

In a statement released after the funeral of Khameeni in Tehran, Russian UN Security Council deputy Dmitry Medvedev claimed that the Strait of Hormuz is as strategically vital for Iran as an actual nuclear weapon. He added that the country also possesses a contingency capability at Bab al‑Mandeb, which could be employed to pressure global shipping lanes. Medvedev suggested that Washington had no legitimate cause to launch an attack on Tehran, noting that the United States ordered an air strike while Iran was still negotiating with the U.S. He recalled that President Vladimir Putin had previously offered a roadmap for a peaceful resolution of Iran’s nuclear issue, a proposal the United States and Israel allegedly ignored.
