Maritime Security and FOIP Drive New Japan‑India Partnership Initiatives

Prime Minister Takayuki announced that a Japanese destroyer and an Indian Navy ship will conduct a combined operation in the Indian Ocean later this year. The exercise will focus on naval maintenance, repair, and joint patrols, reinforcing the two navies’ interoperability.

The move is part of a broader effort to boost maritime security cooperation, a cornerstone of the FOIP strategy. Both sides view a safe, open ocean as essential for trade, investment, and regional peace. The initiative also supports India’s ‘Developed India’ vision for 2047, with Japan offering investment and technology to accelerate growth.
