Maritime Security Roadmap and Energy Security Pact Signed During Modi’s Trip

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official itinerary in Australia included a landmark meeting that produced a maritime security cooperation roadmap.

Both governments committed to a structured plan for joint patrols, information sharing and capacity building in the Indo‑Pacific waters. The roadmap is designed to address emerging threats and ensure safe sea lanes for commercial shipping.

On the energy front, a joint communiqué reaffirmed the two nations’ dedication to uninterrupted, cost‑effective energy supplies. India positioned itself as a reliable source of refined petroleum, while Australia promised to maintain shipments of coal and natural gas.

The dialogue also resulted in an agreement to streamline the export of Australian uranium to India, reinforcing the civilian nuclear cooperation framework established in 2014. This initiative supports India’s transition to low‑carbon power sources and its net‑zero emissions target.

These measures collectively illustrate a broadened strategic alignment that responds to global shifts while bolstering defence, maritime and energy resilience.
