The charge sheet said the two women were running away to escape the mob of about 900-1,000 people armed with sophisticated weapons like rifles, SLRs, INSAS and .303 rifles. It said a mob had forced their way into his village in Kangpokpi district, about 68 km south of Saikul police station. The women ran into the forest with other victims to escape the mob, but the rioters spotted them. Officials said some people in the crowd asked the women to go to a police vehicle parked on the roadside to seek help.
