Kolkata. Due to the continuous setbacks in the Shahjahan Sheikh affair of Sandeshkhali, it seems that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee does not want to learn anything. Despite the order, Shahjahan Sheikh's case was not handed over to the CBI till Tuesday evening, which has received a blow from the Supreme Court as well as the Calcutta High Court. Mamta Banerjee got a big blow from Calcutta High Court on Wednesday in the Shahjahan Sheikh case. The bench of Justice Harish Tandon and Justice Hiranmoy Bhattacharya of Calcutta High Court, while hearing the petition presented by ED, has ordered to hand over Shahjahan to CBI by 4.15 pm on Wednesday evening.

The bench said in the order that we are serious about our order given on March 5. A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court. But till now no stay has come on our order. Along with this, the court has issued a contempt notice and asked the Bengal CID department to reply to the affidavit within two weeks.

During the hearing in the Calcutta High Court, the ED argued that despite the order passed by the High Court, the state police did not hand over Shahjahan on Tuesday saying that the case has been filed in the Supreme Court. ED said in its argument that if these days pass then our custody will have no meaning.

Earlier, the Supreme Court also refused to give relief to the Mamata Banerjee government on the cases of Sandeshkhali and Sheikh Shahjahan. Mamta government, in its petition on this matter, accepted the request for interim stay on the order of the High Court and appealed to the court for immediate hearing. But the Supreme Court had refused to give any such relief.
