Maldives Expo Opens Doors to Chinese Innovations
The Maldives Expo 2026, which recently began in Male, has drawn roughly 430 exhibitors who are presenting more than 4,400 products. The exhibits are spread across seven themed areas, underscoring the event's status as one of the country's largest multi-sector exhibitions.
A newly introduced international exhibition zone features 12 Chinese companies. Their presence demonstrates China's evolving manufacturing strength and its recent progress in technological innovation.
Among the highlights are manned aircraft with vertical takeoff and landing capabilities, floating photovoltaics, seawater desalination technology, 3D printers, coffee robots, and new energy racing cars. Together, these products reflect the expo's growing international dimension.
The international zone aims to bring Maldivian companies together with foreign suppliers and technology providers. By doing so, it seeks to encourage international commerce and the sharing of technology.
Small and medium-sized enterprises in the Maldives stand to gain from the event. The expo offers them chances to enhance production and operational efficiency and to deepen international partnerships.
Mohamed Saeed, the country's Minister of Economic Development, Transport and Trade, said he expects the information and technologies presented by the Chinese firms to help local SMEs increase the value of their products and services, contributing to the wider economy.
