Local Leaders and Senators Praise 80 Years of India‑US Partnership on Independence Day

U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell of Washington sent congratulations to the Indian community and the Consul General in Seattle on the occasion of India’s 80th Independence Day. She highlighted the milestone of eight decades of diplomatic relations, noting the deepening partnership between the two largest democracies.

Cantwell praised shared democratic values, collaborative innovation and the ongoing commitment to prosperity, technology and opportunity across the Indo‑U.S. corridor.

City leaders in Seattle, Bellevue, Kent and SeaTac each released statements celebrating Indian cultural, social and economic contributions. Seattle Mayor Katie B. Wilson formally observed India Day, while Bellevue Mayor Mo Malcautian, Kent Mayor Dana Ralph and SeaTac Mayor Mohammad Aagl echoed similar sentiments.

King County Council members announced that more than 100,000 Indian-Americans reside in the county, and they declared August 15 as India Day, recognizing Indian progress in education, health and economic development.

In Montana, Governor Greg Gianforte recorded a video message expressing gratitude for the Indian and Indian‑American community’s role in the state’s cultural, academic and economic life, citing innovation and community commitment as forces that make the region stronger.

South Dakota Governor Larry Rhoden and Alaska’s leadership also extended congratulations, noting that their Indian and Indian‑American residents have helped fortify their states through diverse contributions.
