Liechtenstein Prince Alois to Make Second India Trip in 2026

A state visit to India by Hereditary Prince Alois of Liechtenstein has been scheduled for October 25 to 28, 2026. The prince, who is currently acting head of state of Liechtenstein, is visiting at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Hereditary Princess Sophie will travel with him, along with a high-level official and business delegation.

The announcement confirms that this is the prince's second visit to India in 2026. He had earlier attended the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi in February. Prince Alois has also made trips to India in 2010 and 2018.

The agenda includes a bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Modi and the prince. The leaders are expected to discuss cooperation across trade and investment, science, technology and innovation. Their talks will also include people-to-people exchanges and developments in the region and the wider world.

President Droupadi Murmu will host an official banquet for the visiting prince. He will also hold a meeting with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.

The visit is widely viewed as a step toward stronger bilateral ties. Relations have gained fresh momentum since the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement, known as TEPA, took effect in 2025. The agreement began on October 1, 2025, and aims to encourage trade, investment and technological cooperation.

At the AI Impact Summit in February 2026, Prime Minister Modi and Prince Alois agreed that cooperation should deepen in high-value manufacturing, advanced technology and innovation-based sectors. They described the ties between the two countries as friendly.

India and Liechtenstein have also welcomed the potential for TEPA to draw 100 billion dollars in investment into India over 15 years. Both nations hope the pact will strengthen economic links and open new business opportunities.

Liechtenstein is a compact country in Central Europe whose economy is known for specialised manufacturing, engineering and financial services. For India, partnership with the country could be beneficial in advanced industrial technology, investment and skills development.
