Liechtenstein's Hereditary Prince Begins Formal India Engagements

Hereditary Prince Alois of Liechtenstein was formally welcomed at the Rashtrapati Bhavan courtyard in New Delhi on Tuesday, as his India visit moved into a busy schedule of official engagements.

President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi were among those who greeted him with warmth.

Prince Alois reached Delhi on Monday from Vadodara, in Gujarat. He was received at the airport by Minister of State Jayant Singh.

The Ministry of External Affairs said on X that the Prince's visit marked a new chapter in India-Liechtenstein relations. It said the visit would give fresh impetus to the bilateral partnership between the two nations.

Jayant Singh, in a message on X, welcomed the Prince and recalled their meeting in Davos. He expressed the hope that friendly ties would be strengthened further and that shared goals would move forward through mutual cooperation.

The Prince is in India on a state visit at Prime Minister Modi's invitation. His tour began in Mumbai. He is accompanied by Princess Sophia and a high-level official and business delegation.

The current visit is his second to India in 2026, after he attended the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi in February. He had previously visited India in 2010 and 2018.

The Prince will pay floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat and hold a meeting with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.

His meeting with Prime Minister Modi at Hyderabad House is scheduled for Tuesday. The talks are expected to cover trade and investment, science, technology and innovation, and people-to-people exchanges. The two leaders will also share views on regional and global developments.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Minister of State Jayant Chaudhary, who handles skill development and entrepreneurship, are also set to meet the Prince on Tuesday. He will subsequently call on President Murmu, who will host an official banquet in his honour.
