Liechtenstein's Hereditary Prince Alois Begins India State Visit
Liechtenstein's Hereditary Prince Alois has started his state visit to India with an arrival in Mumbai. Maharashtra's Protocol Minister, Jaykumar Rawal, received the prince at the airport, setting the tone for a visit that combines high-level diplomacy with business engagement.
The Ministry of External Affairs made the arrival public on Monday. The ministry also posted a photograph on X, welcoming the prince to India and noting that he had reached Mumbai on a state visit.
The ministry had already outlined the programme on Sunday. According to that update, the prince would land late at night and remain in India until October 28. His delegation includes Princess Sophie, Deputy Prime Minister Sabine Monauni, senior officials and a business group.
A bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prince Alois is set for Tuesday at Hyderabad House in New Delhi. The leaders will also share perspectives on regional and global developments.
Prince Alois will call on President Droupadi Murmu, who is hosting an official banquet in his honour. He will also meet External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. The business delegation's participation alongside these meetings is viewed as a key step toward deepening economic ties.
India and Liechtenstein have maintained contact since establishing diplomatic relations in 1993. Prince Alois previously made official visits to India in November 2010 and October 2018, and visited in 2013 on a private trip with his father, Prince Hans-Adam II.
In February 2026, he took part in the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi and held a meeting with Prime Minister Modi.
For India, Liechtenstein's significance goes beyond its size. Its specialised manufacturing, engineering and technology-based economy could open avenues for collaboration with Indian industries. India's large market and production capacity, in turn, present growth opportunities for Liechtenstein's companies.
