A fresh wave of Israeli airstrikes has pushed Lebanon’s civilian death toll to 2,969 since early March, according to health officials in Beirut. The relentless campaign has turned southern towns into ghost zones, with residents fleeing Tyre, Sidon, and Nabatieh after evacuation orders. Médecins Sans Frontières described the May 12 attack on emergency workers in Nabatieh as “unacceptable,” noting that three paramedics were killed while treating a survivor of an earlier strike. Hospitals and ambulances are increasingly caught in the crossfire, leaving medical supplies scarce. The escalation follows Hezbollah’s rocket barrages launched in response to reported Israeli-U.S. strikes on Iranian targets. While Israel maintains it is only hitting militant infrastructure, the mounting civilian casualties and widespread destruction have triggered a humanitarian emergency that shows no sign of easing.
