Both leaders highlight North Korea nuclear threats and regional stability

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio used their joint statement to underline the persistent danger posed by North Korea’s nuclear and missile programmes. They reaffirmed their dedication to the United Nations Security Council’s resolutions that call for the complete denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula.

The leaders appealed to every UN member to fully enforce sanctions, including the ban on the transfer of weapons and related equipment to or from North Korea. They warned that any lapse could destabilise the broader Indo‑Pacific region.

Beyond the Korean issue, Modi and Kishida expressed concern over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the necessity of advancing a two‑state solution. They stressed that fostering lasting peace in the Middle East requires sustained diplomatic engagement and respect for international law.

The pair also addressed the importance of securing unhindered shipping through the Hormuz Strait, citing its critical role in global energy supplies and the need to adhere strictly to UNCLOS guidelines.
