Large fire erupts after drone raid on Russia’s key fuel plant

According to the Joint Staff of the Ukrainian armed forces, a massive fire broke out at the Sezarane oil refinery in Samara after a coordinated drone attack on Saturday night. The facility, which processes up to 8.5 million metric tonnes of crude each year, is part of Rosneft’s core network and contributes about three percent of national oil throughput.

The assault also sparked a blaze on a tanker positioned in the Don‑Azov canal, prompting emergency crews to respond. Governor Yuri Slusev of the Rostov‑Don region said that more than twenty drones were shot down by surface‑to‑air systems, preventing further damage.

Analysts note that the refinery produces automotive gasoline, diesel and jet fuel that are essential for the Russian military’s logistics, making the strike a potentially high‑impact development in the energy warfare front.
