Kyrgyzstan Hosts Sixth World Nomad Games Featuring 43 Traditional Sports

Kyrgyzstan is once again the host nation for the World Nomad Games, welcoming athletes, scholars, and cultural performers to Bishkek for the sixth edition of the event. The games, originally conceived in 2012 by Turkic states, have grown to include over 110 participating countries and a program of 43 traditional sports.

The competition roster spans a wide spectrum of nomadic disciplines: classic wrestling styles such as Gulesh, Kurash, and Mongol Bukh; equestrian events like Kok Boru and horse racing; strength challenges such as tug‑of‑war and strongman; as well as archery, falconry, and traditional games like Togüz Kargul and Oware.

In addition to the athletic contests, the festival offers a rich cultural program that includes the "Echo of Nomads" performance, a Nomad Fest, heritage art labs, and an ethnographic market where artisans display traditional crafts. A dedicated scientific segment will examine nomadic heritage, traditional knowledge, and the role of cultural dialogue in modern societies.

The opening ceremony, highlighted by the joint appearance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Vladimir Putin in a shared vehicle, set a tone of international cooperation and cultural respect for the week-long celebration.
