Kuthati Takes Charge of India’s Mission in Trinidad and Tobago, Continuing Africa Experience

The Indian government has posted senior diplomat Bharat Kumar Kuthati as High Commissioner to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, effective from early October. Kuthati, an IFS officer from the 2006 batch, is presently serving in Botswana and will transition to the Caribbean posting after completing his current responsibilities.

His previous role as Regional Passport Officer in Bengaluru equipped him with hands‑on expertise in modernising consular services, a skill set he later applied while serving as High Commissioner to Botswana. In Botswana, Kuthati championed initiatives that bolstered India‑Botswana relations, ranging from ICTE projects and ICCR scholarship programmes to defence cooperation and agricultural capacity building.

He also facilitated cultural and sporting exchanges, notably the participation of the Indian women’s cricket team in training programmes and the signing of a memorandum of understanding on sports, youth development and job creation for local talent.

The move to Trinidad and Tobago aligns with India’s strategic interest in deepening engagement in the Caribbean, where trade is dominated by diamond cutting, polishing and related gemstones. Kuthati’s experience in fostering development partnerships is expected to enhance India’s diplomatic and economic footprint in the region.
