Katz Directs Strict Action on Aerial Threats from Gaza

Jerusalem, August 24 – Defence Minister Yoav Katz announced that the Israel Defence Forces have been given explicit orders to respond forcefully to any balloon, kite or similar object released from Gaza toward Israeli communities. The minister clarified that all such objects will be classified as hostile drones, even if they are not equipped with explosives.

Katz emphasized a zero‑tolerance policy, stating that any relaxation would be unacceptable. He added that the IDF will take “hard‑handed” steps to neutralize these threats and that the approach will not be revisited.

He highlighted that the army has refined its defensive perimeter, creating a clear buffer zone that separates civilians from potential terrorist activity. This area is now under direct military oversight, ensuring swift protection for both soldiers and nearby settlements.

A senior security review involving Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, senior defence officials and IDF leadership concluded with a joint declaration. The declaration warned Hamas that ongoing attacks using drones, balloons or kites will be met with targeted incursions and that launch zones will be evacuated of civilians to enable effective counter‑operations.
