Kashmir Diaspora in UK Calls for Global Action Over Violence in Occupied Kashmir

On the evening of 6 August, the Kashmiri community in the United Kingdom staged a powerful demonstration outside the Pakistani diplomatic mission in Bradford. The protest featured elderly men, women, and children, all holding placards that condemned the Pakistani army’s “cruelty” and demanded an end to the killings in Rawalakot.

Co‑ordinated with the Joint Awaami Action Committee, the march highlighted the recent surge of violence in Pakistan‑occupied Kashmir, where more than fifty civilians have been reported dead and many more wounded. Organisers stressed that the true casualty figures remain uncertain due to a communications blackout imposed by the authorities.

Demonstrators called on the United Nations, the EU, and other international bodies to intervene and protect the rights of Kashmiri civilians. They urged the UK government to raise the issue at the highest diplomatic levels, emphasizing the need for a swift cease‑fire and a thorough investigation into alleged human‑rights abuses.

British MPs have already voiced alarm, with Labour representatives describing the killings of peaceful protestors as “deeply concerning.” They have demanded an urgent meeting with the Pakistani High Commissioner in London and a strong statement from the Foreign Office.

The Bradford rally reflects a broader trend of Kashmiri diaspora activism across Europe and North America, where expatriate groups are increasingly mobilising to draw global attention to the humanitarian crisis unfolding in the contested territory.
