June CPI shows 0.3% monthly dip amid falling food and gold prices

Beijing, July 9 – The June consumer price index in China recorded a 0.3 percent decline from the previous month, according to data published by the National Bureau of Statistics. The drop was driven by lower food costs and a sharp fall in the price of gold jewelry, which fell 8.7 percent.

Gasoline prices also decreased by 4.9 percent, reflecting the influence of international oil market fluctuations. Despite the monthly dip, the year‑on‑year CPI remained steady at a 1.0 percent increase, showing that overall inflation is still modest.

Statistical official Tong Lijuan attributed the monthly decrease to seasonal patterns and external market volatility. The core CPI, which excludes food and energy, maintained a 1.0 percent rise, indicating that the underlying inflation trend remains unchanged.
