Joint Avami Action Committee Reports Heavy Gunfire on Protesters

The Joint Avami Action Committee (JAAC) issued an urgent notice accusing security forces of heavy gunfire targeting civilians in Rawalkot. According to the committee, the firing has been intermittent but intense, aimed at dispersing the crowd gathered at D‑Chowk.

JAAC’s statement emphasized that the protest is sustained by women and children who have been occupying a makeshift camp on a nearby creek for more than 50 days. The committee warned that the demonstrations will continue until the list of demands—ranging from the release of political prisoners to the restoration of basic rights—is acknowledged.

Videos posted on X display sharp bursts of gunfire interspersed with the chants of the protesters. While the footage shows no immediate fatalities, the threat of lethal force remains high, and the international community has been urged to monitor the situation closely.

The committee also cited recent statements from its member, Sardar Umar Nazir Kashmiri, who claimed that over 50 people have been killed and hundreds injured in the past four days due to “cruel operations” by Pakistani security forces.
