In response to the July 28 earthquake that struck at a depth of 10 kilometres, the Japanese government is considering tapping the fiscal year 2026 budget’s reserve of about one trillion yen (approximately $6.4 billion). Kishida’s itinerary included a helicopter fly‑over of the most heavily damaged zones, where the seismic intensity reached level 7, rendering normal walking impossible for many residents. The prime minister highlighted that the fund will cover rebuilding of critical infrastructure, compensation for lost livelihoods, and long‑term resilience projects.
