Jaishankar's UAE trip coincides with regional tensions and LPG supply shift
Dr. S. Jaishankar’s official visit to the United Arab Emirates, spanning October 14‑16, arrives at a time when the Middle East faces multiple flashpoints. While the minister engages in high‑level talks on the India‑UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, the region watches the unfolding conflict in Iran and the renewed Saudi‑Houthi clash in Yemen.
In parallel, the UAE has surged ahead as India’s leading LPG supplier. Data compiled by maritime intelligence firm Kapler shows that the UAE’s share of India’s LPG imports climbed to 39 % in September, up from 13 % the month before, overtaking the United States, which had been the top supplier for six months.
Jaishankar’s agenda also includes participation in the second Raisina Middle East dialogue, where broader geopolitical and energy security issues are expected to be discussed.
These developments underscore the strategic importance of the India‑UAE relationship amid shifting energy dynamics and regional uncertainty.
