Jaishankar and Lavrov Discuss Strategic Partnership Amid Global Turbulence

During a high‑profile visit to Moscow on August 25, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar engaged in a detailed conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. The dialogue addressed the strategic partnership between India and Russia, covering bilateral initiatives, regional instability, worldwide challenges and multilateral engagements.

Posting on X, Jaishankar noted that the meeting examined "bilateral cooperation, regional sensitive matters, global challenges and multilateral issues." The timing of the talks aligns with a period of intensified diplomatic exchanges between the two nations.

Earlier that day, Jaishankar met President Vladimir Putin, delivering a direct message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also co‑presided over the 27th session of the India‑Russia Inter‑Governmental Commission on Trade, Economy, Science, Technology and Culture (IRIGC‑TECH) alongside Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, assessing progress in multiple sectors.

According to a Kremlin release, President Putin highlighted the enduring partnership and reported a rise in trade activity this year, crediting Modi’s personal commitment to deepening India‑Russia relations.

Both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to bolster cooperation, tackle regional security challenges, and collaborate on global issues moving forward.
