Jaishankar Highlights 4‑F Crisis and Need for Clear Global Rules

In New York, Minister S. Jaishankar used the P4M summit platform to draw attention to the growing “4‑F” crisis – fuel, food, fertilizer and finance – warning that these essential sectors cannot be left to market volatility alone.

He argued that emerging capabilities and new concerns require explicit international rules, frameworks and security arrangements.

When a single actor dominates a critical supply route or faces the risk of disruption, Jaishankar said the international community must promote risk‑reducing measures and expand alternative options.

He called for countries sharing similar perspectives to stand together, emphasizing that multilateral cooperation flourishes only when international law, agreed standards and regulations are respected with full seriousness.

Beyond rhetoric, the minister insisted that supporting multilateralism must be paired with robust implementation mechanisms, and that reforms to the current multilateral system are essential.

Greater participation in discussions and heightened transparency in decision‑making, he noted, are long‑standing necessities that can reinvigorate confidence in the United Nations and reinforce the resolve to work together.
