ITEC Marks 62 Years, Extends Training to Over 160 Nations
The Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation programme celebrated its 62nd anniversary this year, marking a sustained commitment to global capacity building since its launch in 1964.
From a modest start, ITEC has grown into a multi‑disciplinary platform that now serves more than 160 partner countries. The programme offers fully funded training to nearly ten thousand individuals annually, covering a spectrum of subjects including ICT, digital governance, public administration, banking, finance, agriculture, energy, and skill development.
Security‑related modules, such as defence strategy, counter‑terrorism and crisis management, have also been integrated, creating a comprehensive package that aligns with the varied needs of developing nations. Jaishankar highlighted that the success of ITEC lies in its ability to adapt to emerging challenges while fostering long‑term relationships based on shared knowledge.
The Minister noted that the Indian institutions hosting these trainees benefit equally, gaining fresh perspectives from the international cohort. This reciprocal learning enriches both sides and reinforces the programme’s role as a bridge between India and its global partners.
