Italy, Kuwait Agree Strategic Priorities for 2027-2030
Italy and Kuwait have agreed on a set of strategic priorities for the period 2027 to 2030, following a meeting between Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Emir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah in Kuwait.
Meloni began her official visit to Kuwait by arriving in Kuwait City on Friday. The same day she met the Emir, and she later shared the outcome of the talks on X.
She said the Crown Prince and the Prime Minister were present at the meeting. The discussions were centred on expanding cooperation in investment, energy, infrastructure and defence.
The two sides adopted a new action plan that sets out strategic priorities for 2027 to 2030. According to Meloni, the plan defines the path ahead for bilateral ties and the main sectors that will receive focus.
Beyond bilateral issues, the leaders also addressed regional and global developments. Meloni noted that particular attention was given to the security of sea trade routes and to deepening links between the European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council.
Kuwait, Meloni added, expressed a desire to keep in place the petrol and diesel price cap previously introduced by Q8. The step is intended to keep energy costs manageable and protect families and businesses from rising prices.
The visit also saw the signing of a letter of intent between Kuwait's Ministry of Defence and Leonardo. The document will guide efforts in defence capability development and industrial cooperation.
