The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have commenced a preemptive and precise combined offensive focused on Iran’s nuclear program. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed the launch of ‘Operation Rising Lion’ on Friday, a targeted military operation aimed at neutralizing the Iranian threat. Netanyahu stated that the operation will continue until the threat is removed.
In a video statement, Netanyahu said, “Moments ago, Israel launched Operation Rising Lion, a targeted military operation to roll back the Iranian threat to Israel’s very survival. This operation will continue for as many days as it takes to remove this threat.”
Israeli Air Force (IAF) jets completed the first stage of the operation, striking numerous military and nuclear sites across Iran, according to the IDF. Defense Minister Israel Katz declared a state of emergency across the country due to Israel’s actions in Iran.
“Following the State of Israel’s preemptive strike against Iran, a missile and drone attack against the State of Israel and its civilian population is expected in the immediate future,” stated Katz.
The IDF emphasized the existential threat posed by Iran’s progress toward acquiring nuclear weapons. The statement read, “Today, Iran is closer than ever to obtaining a nuclear weapon. Weapons of mass destruction in the hands of the Iranian regime threaten the State of Israel and the wider world.”
The Israeli government affirmed its commitment to defending its citizens and stated it will take necessary actions when required. The statement added, “The State of Israel remains committed to fulfilling its obligation to protect its people, just as it has done in the past.”
