Iranian militia blamed for striking UAE oil tankers, ministry calls for swift action

Abu Dhabi, August 14 – The foreign ministry of the United Arab Emirates accused Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps of launching an attack on two oil tankers owned by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) as they passed through the Hormuz Strait.

The ministry’s statement emphasized that the assault represents a clear breach of UN Security Council Resolution 2817, which upholds the principle of unhindered navigation and rejects any targeting of commercial vessels. It characterized the strike as a form of piracy that threatens the stability of the Gulf region, the safety of its inhabitants, and the uninterrupted flow of energy to the world.

UAE officials called on Iran to immediately halt all hostile actions, to cease any further provocations, and to fully reopen the Hormuz Strait to international traffic without any conditions. ADNOC later reported that the vessels are operational, no crew members were harmed and the situation is now under control.

The company reiterated its commitment to safeguarding its personnel, maintaining freedom of navigation and ensuring maritime security for all ships transiting the vital waterway.
