Iranian envoy cites maritime security steps as US breaches continue

On July 9, Iran’s commercial counsellor Saeed Raja Mosayeb Motlagh addressed the ongoing tension with the United States from Mumbai, underscoring that repeated American violations of prior agreements would trigger a powerful response from Tehran. He highlighted that Iran has already acted against U.S. interests and military positions within the Gulf region, indicating readiness for a more decisive counter‑measure if the provocations persist.

Motlagh stressed that conversation and diplomatic engagement have always been a priority for Iran. "We have never abandoned the path of dialogue, before, during, and after any incident," he asserted, accusing the United States of consistently undermining the spirit of talks through broken promises.

In the context of maritime safety, the Iranian official explained that due to the current insecure situation, temporary restrictions have been placed on ship movements in specific sea areas to ensure the safety of crews and cargoes. He reaffirmed Iran’s long‑standing aim of fostering peace, stability, and prosperity in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.

The envoy also pointed out that continued attacks weaken regional security and affect nations that depend heavily on Gulf shipping lanes. He questioned the reliability of remarks made by the former U.S. president, labeling them as contradictory and inconsistent. When probed about Pakistan’s potential mediation role, Motlagh reiterated Iran’s openness to dialogue and its clear stance on defending its interests.
