Iranian air defenses down MQ-1 drone amid heightened US-Israel tensions

Tehran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said its air‑defence units successfully intercepted a US MQ‑1 reconnaissance aircraft flying over the western Hormuz Strait on Tuesday. The drone was picked up by the IRGC’s aerospace force radar and was destroyed by a newly deployed surface‑to‑air missile as part of Iran’s integrated defensive network.

The statement underscored that Iranian forces have been consistently countering aerial threats since the United States and Israel intensified military actions against the country. The IRGC claimed that dozens of hostile drones and aircraft have been neutralised to date.

The latest downing comes after a similar engagement a week earlier, reinforcing Tehran’s message that its air‑defence system remains fully capable of detecting and eliminating any breach of Iranian airspace.
