Iran chose July 4, the day the United States marks its 250th year of independence, to lay Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to rest. Former diplomat Deepak Vohra told IANS that the date appears to be a calculated provocation aimed at Washington.
Vohra pointed out that only a handful of foreign dignitaries attended, including Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, a senior army chief, a junior Chinese delegate, Gulf officials, and an Indian governor. He noted the absence of European leaders and described the limited attendance as a diplomatic concern, emphasizing that Iran seems isolated in its political theater.
