Iran Says Any Provocation in Hormuz Will Meet Firm Response

In the wake of the late Supreme Leader’s funeral rites, Tehran’s foreign ministry issued a direct message to Western capitals regarding the Hormuz Strait. Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gheyrabadi told journalists that the strait’s security is a regional matter and that Iran will view any foreign military manoeuvre as a serious breach of sovereignty.

He emphasized that Iran is prepared to answer any provocation with an "equivalent" response, signalling that the country will not stand by while external forces attempt to stage a show of force in the waterway. Gheyrabadi’s comments were posted on the X platform and serve as a rebuttal to a joint British‑French proclamation that called for a multinational naval presence to protect shipping.

Iran has previously condemned such initiatives, arguing that they amount to an attempt by Western nations to impose their own security architecture on the Persian Gulf and the Hormuz corridor, which Iran regards as within its legitimate jurisdiction.
